A motorcyclist has been charged with a felony after allegedly fleeing a traffic stop and leading police on a high-speed chase through Eagan.

On April 28, police observed two motorcycles traveling at a high rate of speed and attempted to clock the faster bike.

Police were unable to clock that motorcycle — driven by Isaac C. Trexel, 23, of West St. Paul — because it was traveling too quickly, but estimated Trexel was traveling in excess of 100 mph, according to the criminal complaint.

When police attempted a traffic stop, Trexel sped up, traveling south on Interstate 35E and then exiting at Yankee Doodle Road, the complaint said. Trexel swerved in and out of traffic during the chase, and at one point was traveling east in the westbound lanes of Yankee Doodle Road.

Several other squad cars joined in the pursuit, and Trexel continued to flee, heading south on Highway 149 and nearly crashing into the tanker of a semi truck, the complaint said. His motorcycle struck the side of a squad car blocking its path, jumped the curb, then headed the wrong way in the northbound lanes of Highway 149.

Eventually, Trexel pulled into a parking lot and slowed — police observed that he was unable to get the bike back into gear — and he was placed under arrest. Trexel told police he continued to flee because he was afraid, the complaint said.

Trexel was charged in district court April 30 with fleeing a peace officer in a motor vehicle. If convicted, he faces a maximum penalty of three years and one day in prison and a fine of $5,000.
